DEPARTMENT: Purchasing
Position Summary
Responsible for identifying, sourcing, and developing suppliers along with negotiating and purchasing of goods and materials. Evaluate the capabilities of potential new suppliers in conjunction with key business stakeholders, recommend approval or rejection, and initiate vendor agreements. Visit suppliers and compile reports upon completion. Assist Purchasing Manager with conducting routine supplier business reviews and evaluation of supplier performance and compliance.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Essential
- Research and develop new vendor sources; negotiates and maintains relationships with current vendors
- Assist with product development by defining material needed, providing drawings when appropriate, obtaining vendor quotes, acquiring samples, and issuing purchase orders
- Gather data for capital purchases and presents data and recommendations
- Interpret technical drawings and RFQs for Sales and new product development
- Research ways to improve finished products by suggesting material alternatives
- Obtain request for quotes from vendors and conduct periodic vendor reviews
- Travel up to 15% domestically and internationally
Marginal
- Create and maintain item and vendor files
- Approve purchase orders
- Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:
- A minimum 5 – 7 years of related experience but specifically a minimum of 4 years related planning/procurement/supply chain experience in a distribution and light manufacturing/kitting operations. International experience preferred
- Knowledge and professional experience with implementation of and adherence to Purchasing Contracts and Vendor Compliance Agreements
- Experience with cross functional teams including Quality, Production, Sales, and Product Development
- Knowledge of forecasting/planning software
- Ability to read technical drawings and prints
- Exceptional analytical skills along with advanced Microsoft Office, especially Excel, skills
- Knowledge of permanent magnetic materials relating to quality, tolerances & specs desired
- Quote processing experience with both outsourcing labor and materials
- Materials and capital purchasing experience
- Experience with new product development

- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of company team by establishing and maintaining effective work relationships
- Ability to effectively interact with external vendors
- Detail oriented with the ability to organize and handle multiple tasks
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to prepare reports and other documents in a neat and legible manner
- Demonstrates excellent negotiation, problem resolution, and customer service skills
- Demonstrates the ability to assimilate information and make decisions based on research
- Effective written, oral and telephone communication skills and prepare reports and other documents in a neat and legible manner
- Handles difficult situations with diplomacy
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Supply Chain Management or Purchasing
Pay Range $64,000 - $69,000 DOE
